Premier League: Blackburn 2-3 Everton

Sunday, April 18, 2010

European-hopefuls Everton won a five-goal thriller at Blackburn Rovers to move to within two points of sixth-placed Liverpool, having played one game more than the Reds.

The Toffees had opened the scoring after just four minutes via a Mikel Arteta penalty before Steven N'Zonzi produced a 69th-minute wonder strike to pull Blackburn level.

Everton regained the lead on 79 minutes through substitute Yakubu, who had been on the field barely 20 seconds, but Blackburn's response was instant as fellow substitute Jason Roberts evened things up once more just two minutes later.

There was yet another late twist in the tale, however, as Tim Cahill tapped in a winner in the 90th minute to secure a vital win in Everton's late push for European football next season.
