Villarreal retain hopes of pushing for a Champions League place with a 1-0 victory over Sporting Gijón at El Madrigal.

Uruguay defender Diego Godín capitalised on an error by visiting keeper Juan Pablo Colinas to head home his first goal since October 2007 in the 16th minute.
