Former Liverpool striker Besian Idrizaj has tragically died of a suspected heart attack aged just 22.

According to reports in his home country of Austria, Idrizaj was found dead by his brother Qerim at his family house in Linz in the early hours of Saturday morning.

Idrizaj, who had suffered health problems in the past, feared he would have to quit football two years ago when he collapsed twice in the space of nine months.

The 6ft 2in marksman collapsed on the pitch while playing for Wacker Innsbruck in a league match against Sturm Graz in February 2008. He lay unconscious on the pitch for several minutes and spent a month away from the game.

And in November 2008, the big Austrian was rushed to hospital after a trial match with LASK Linz.

But Idrizaj was given the all-clear by doctors and moved to Swansea City last August.

The former Under-21 international joined Liverpool in the summer of 2005 but despite spending three years at Anfield, he did not make a competitive appearance for the club.

A statement on Liverpool's official website read: "Liverpool Football Club have been shocked and saddened by the death of former striker Besian Idrizaj.

"Everyone at Liverpool Football Club would like to pass on their condolences to Besian's family and friends at this very sad time."
