World Cup 2010 Group C: England 1-1 USA

Sunday, June 13, 2010

England were denied three priceless points in their opening Group C fixture after a horrible clanger by Robert Green handed the United States a 1-1 draw in Rustenburg.

The Three Lions needed just four minutes to break the deadlock, with skipper Steven Gerrard handing them the perfect start when he charged into the area before calmly slotting past Tim Howard with the outside of his right foot.

But disaster struck in the 40th minute when an apparently harmless 25-meter left-foot shot from Clint Dempsey slipped through Green's grasp and into the back of the net.
