Xabi Alonso has commented on the possibility of playing alongside Steven Gerrard once more, but this time in Real Madrid colours.
New Real boss José Mourinho, who attempted to prise Gerrard away from Liverpool during his time at Chelsea, has hinted that he could be interested in the England midfielder.
Now, with the Liverpool club hierarchy having put an asking price on the table, Rafa Benítez's exit could facilitate Gerrard's move to Spain where the 30-year-old would reunite with Alonso in midfield.
"We will see what happens," Alonso told Marca.
"Steven is a legend at Liverpool and I have a lot of respect for Liverpool's fans and also the club.
"But it is clear that he's an awesome player. He has an incredible quality."
