Werder Bremen recovered from going two goals down to salvage a 2-2 draw with Champions League debutants Tottenham Hotspur.
Spurs charged into an early lead in Germany as Petri Pasanen scored a 12th-minute own goal under pressure from Peter Crouch before the England striker headed home six minutes later.
However, a fine first-half performance was tarnished by a soft goal for Hugo Almeida to pull one back for Werder just two minutes before the break.
