Frank Lampard tips Harry Redknapp for England post

Saturday, November 6, 2010

Chelsea star Frank Lampard believes his uncle Harry Redknapp is the right man to succeed Fabio Capello as England manager.

Capello has confirmed he intends to step down after Euro 2012 and Tottenham Hotspur boss Redknapp is among the favourites to take charge of the national team.

Redknapp's stock has never been higher following Tuesday's thrilling Champions League win over holders Inter Milan.

"If we're looking for a home-grown manager next, Harry's definitely the one," Lampard told The Sun.

"Six months ago people would have said Roy Hodgson, he was the favourite but not now.

"Harry's had such a great career. Look where he's taking Tottenham right now.

"Who can argue with this week's performance against the European champions Inter Milan?

"And remember what he did at Portsmouth and West Ham before that."

The England midfielder, who played for Redknapp at the Hammers before he joined Chelsea, added: "Harry's the best choice. For me, it's got to be him.

"Obviously, I'd be very proud if he is the next England boss because of the family connection."
