Champions League: AS Roma 2-3 Shakhtar Donetsk

Thursday, February 17, 2011

Shakhtar Donetsk scored three goals in 13 minutes to come from behind and beat AS Roma 3-2 in the first leg of their last-16 Champions League tie.

Roma took the lead after 28 minutes when Simone Perotta headed home from close range after he was left unmarked at the far post.

But Shakhtar equalized almost immediately as Jádson's 25-yard shot from a central position taking a couple of deflections before finding its way past Roma goalkeeper Doni.

The Ukrainian outfit then went 3-1 up before the break thanks to goals from Brazilian pair Douglas Costa on 36 minutes and Luiz Adriano five minutes later.

Jérémy Menez pulled a goal back for Roma in the 61st minute but Shakhtar held on for their first win in Italy in their first appearance in the last 16 of the elite European competition.
