Premier League: Newcastle 4-4 Arsenal

Sunday, February 6, 2011

Newcastle United produced one of the greatest comebacks in Premier League history after fighting back from four goals down to earn a miraculous 4-4 home draw against Arsenal.

The Gunners made a fantastic start and seemed out of sight at half-time with goals from Theo Walcott, Johan Djourou and a Robin van Persie double putting them in a commanding position.

But Abou Diaby's needless dismissal after the break for shoving Joey Barton and Kevin Nolan changed the game with Barton starting the recovery from the spot in the 68th minute.

Alarm bells started ringing for Arsenal when Leon Best struck from close range 15 minutes from time and a second Barton penalty in the 83rd minute further shredded the Gunners's nerves before Cheick Tioté's late long-range screamer sparked scenes of utter delirium at St James' Park.
