Michael Essien's father has stated that the Chelsea midfielder should cease using the name Essien, which he gave to him at birth.
James Essien, the biological father of the 28-year-old Ghanaian, is beside himself with rage as a result of the player's failure to cater for him in recent years.
Not able to contain the alleged neglect any longer, he has asked Michael to drop the surname Essien, so he can accept the bitter truth that he does not have a multi-billionaire son.
Essien Snr told Joy News: "His mother has been ill-advising him to stop providing for my upkeep.
"I will go all out to ensure that he stops using my name. Even if I have to drag him to the law courts, I will do that.
"If we achieve my aim then everyone will know he is no longer my son.
"The name has blessings on it and that's why he has been a great player."
