Asamoah, who has played 43 times for the German national side, returned to his home in the port city after his 300th Bundesliga game for his club St Pauli, and went to a champagne birthday party for midfielder Max Kruse.

After quaffing the bubbly and snaffling some hamburgers he invited the two women - known as Florence and Priscilla --back to his home.

But he didn't know was that his wife Linda was asleep in the flat, as she usually lives with their three children 350 miles away in the former Ruhr industrial area of Germany.

She is said to have walked in on her husband sitting with the two women at the kitchen table.

"What happened next can best be described as a wild west catfight," said one police officer.

The police report stated that Linda had a bundle of her hair torn out and according to testimony from Priscilla and Florence, she then pulled a knife from a kitchen block but only succeeded in in badly cutting her own hand.

Linda was treated at a local hospital and has taken out a police complaint against the woman who pulled her hair out.

German newspaper Bild reported that Asamoah made a swift exit from the scene by telling police: "I have got to go to training."
