Defending champions Barcelona marched eight points clear at the top of La Liga with a 1-0 victory against Villarreal at El Madrigal.
Gerard Piqué grabbed the crucial goal for Barça in the 67th minute as he chested down a flick-on from a corner before rifling the ball past Villarreal goalkeeper Diego Alves.
