And when we get all hot and bothered about diving, an amazing incident occurred in the Brazilian fourth division game between Operario PR and Mirassol this week.
During Mirassol's 3-0 victory, referee Rodrigo Nunes de Sa flashed his red card to a Mirassol defender for something or other.
Unhappy at the ref's decision, the number six player moved his head ominously in the direction of the frightened referee but made little or no contact.
But rather than standing firm and upholding his authority, the referee shamelessly threw himself to the floor as if he had been headbutted.
Didier Drogba, Cristiano Ronaldo and other proponents of simulation in the beautiful game would have even raised a chuckle at his effort.
