Euro 2012 qualifier: Germany 6-2 Austria

Germany became the first team to qualify for Euro 2012 after a 6-2 hammering of Austria in Gelsenkirchen.

Mesut Özil opened the scoring after just eight minutes before doubling the score midway through the first half.

Lukas Podolski tripled the lead before the half-hour, only for Austria to pull a goal back before the break through Marko Arnautović.

Özil sealed his hat-trick two minutes after the interval, although Austria were able to make it 2-4 on the scoreboards through striker Martin Harnik on 51 minutes.

Germany kept it bowling with another two goals by André Schürrle and team-mate Mario Götze to mark the final 6-2 score to make it eight wins out of eight.
