Saturday, September 3, 2011

Robin van Persie scored four times as the Netherlands booked the biggest win of 11-0 over minnows San Marino in Euro 2012 qualifying in Eindhoven.

Van Persie opened the scoring after seven minutes after collecting a pass from Mark van Bommel to score from close range.

He later turned provider as he teed up Wesley Sneijder to score from 20 yards with a crisp finish before a header by John Heitinga in the 18th minute made it 3-0.

The hosts started the second-half in superior fashion with Dirk Kuyt finishing a one-touch attack via van Persie and Klaas-Jan Huntelaar, who then scored his first goal in the 56th minute before van Persie added two more in the 65th and 67th minute.

Huntelaar made it eight with his second in the 77th minute and Sneijder nodded the ball down for van Persie to score the ninth.

Sneijder brought up double figures in the 87th minute by finishing a van Persie pass and substitute Georginio Wijnaldum made it 11-0 in injury-time after being teed up by fellow substitute Hedwiges Maduro.
