La Liga: Atlético Madrid 1-4 Real Madrid

Thursday, April 12, 2012

Real Madrid restored their four-point lead over Barcelona atop the La Liga standings after thrashing local rivals Atlético Madrid 4-1 at the Vicente Calderón.

Cristiano Ronaldo put the visiting side ahead just before the half-hour mark with a swerving 30-yard free-kick, but Atlético hit back on the hour mark with Radamel Falcao scoring.

But Madrid responded positively and they retook the lead when Ronaldo took advantage of some unsure defending before firing another sterling strike into the top corner.

The Portuguese winger then rounded off his hat-trick with a penalty on 82 minutes before substitute José Callejón added the fourth in the closing stages.
