Premier League: Blackburn 2-3 Liverpool

Wednesday, April 11, 2012

Liverpool halted a run of four matches without success with a 3-2 victory at beleaguered Blackburn Rovers at Ewood Park.

A dramatic clash saw the visiting side go two goals ahead inside 16 minutes of the match thanks to a Maxi Rodríguez double.

Liverpool were reduced to 10 men in the latter stages of the first half after Alexander Doni, deputising for the suspended Pepe Reina, was dismissed for a foul on Junior Hoilett and was replaced by Brad Jones, who saved Yakubu's resulting penalty.

But Yakubu was not to be denied as the Nigeria striker headed in David Dunn's free-kick just before half-time before netting a second-half penalty, conceded by Jones.

With the match heading for a draw, there was time for late drama as substitute Daniel Agger flicked on a cross and Andy Carroll powered home an injury-time winner.
