Having seen his side clinch both the Bundesliga title and a place in the semi-finals of the Champions League in the preceding seven days, Bayern coach Jupp Heynckes rested nine of his usual 11 starters for Saturday's Bavarian derby.

And it seemed to only demonstrate his side's strength in depth as they netted three first-half goals courtesy of Jérôme Boateng, Mario Gómez and Rafinha.

The visitors were handed a chance to get back into the game just after the break when Rafinha bundled Mike Frantz over in the area.

But Starke went the right way against Timmy Simons' penalty, and ended up blocking the spot-kick in unconventional fashion with his face.

The tide was soon back with the champions anyhow as Xherdan Shaqiri sealed the rout before the hour mark to comprehensively end Nürnberg's nine-game unbeaten run.
