Barça were confirmed as champions on Saturday night when Real Madrid were held to 1-1 draw at Espanyol, but initially looked set to mark the occasion with defeat as they trailed to Radamel Falcao's 51st-minute opener.

But Alexis Sánchez equalized on 72 minutes, working a one-two combination with Cesc Fàbregas before poking the ball home.

And barely had Atlético recovered from that when the visitors took the lead in the 80th minute in a bizarre circumstances.

Cristian Tello raced to the byline and cut a great pass back inside to substitute David Villa.

Villa scuffed his effort but Gabi was unable to get out of the way, and the ball went into the net via his thigh.

Atlético coach Diego Simeone said in his post-match press conference: "These things happen. Gabi is our captain and is having a wonderful season. Let's see if on Friday (the Copa del Rey final against Madrid) he scores a goal at the other end."
