Fábio Coentrão turns up on Real Madrid bench despite not being picked

Fábio Coentrão staked his claim to be the most stupid player at Real Madrid when he showed up on the bench before Saturday's game against Espanyol - even though he wasn't in the squad.

With the Copa del Rey final to be played this coming Friday, José Mourinho decided to rest a number of regulars for last weekend's game at the Cornellà-El Prat.

Coentrão was one of those players not selected for the match, yet he still took a seat on the bench anyway, sitting next to Iker Casillas and Karim Benzema.

The two started laughing when they saw him there before Casillas explained that he wasn't named to the lineup or the bench.

Coentrão looked embarrassed at the whole situation, stepping up to talk with Aitor Karanka, who confirmed that he indeed needs to sit with the players in the stands.

Cristiano Ronaldo, who didn't start, came in his place, and seemed not too surprised that his fellow countryman made that mistake.
