Luis Suárez completed a 55-minute hat-trick by heading home Steven Gerrard's free-kick following a stunning first-half double.

The visitors were handed a lifeline in the 66th minute when substitute James Morrison converted a penalty after Aly Cissokho caught Billy Jones on a burst into the box.

However, any hopes of a West Brom fightback were dispelled 10 minutes later as Sturridge completed the rout with a breathtaking long-range lob.

Receiving the ball 30 yards out, the England international floated through the West Brom defence.

Sturridge shrugged off Youssouf Mulumbu, spotted Boaz Myhill off his line, and nonchalantly chipped the ball over the backtracking goalkeeper.

"You used to see goals like that here many years ago with top players, quality players scoring those type of goals. Kenny (Dalglish) and what not," Kop boss Brendan Rodgers commented on Sturridge's goal.
