Despite dominating much of the first period, Köln conceded just before half-time through a dream strike from Beister.

Hamburg captain Marcell Jansen laid the ball off to Beister who was advancing from the right.

The 23-year-old had to run back towards his own goal before slamming a spectacular volley from the edge of the area.

The visitors equalised through Adam Matuschyk on 54 minutes, but Ivo Iličević came off the Hamburg bench to score the winning goal five minutes from time.

"I was lucky. The cross was quite high and I knew that I had to take it directly, because it would have been difficult with a bounce. I took the ball then hit it very well," Beister said after the game.
