Ashley Young helps terminally ill fan fulfill dream of going to Old Trafford one last time

Sunday, January 12, 2014

He may have developed a reputation as a diver, but Ashley Young has also earned the respect of fans worldwide with his kind gesture towards a terminally ill Manchester United fan.

John Booth, 58, was diagnosed with stomach cancer in 2011. More recently, the doctors informed the lifelong United supporter that he had months rather than years to live.

He immediately came up with a bucket list of things to do before he passes away, with the final one to watch his beloved United at Old Trafford.

John's ill-health, though, means that he can no longer sit on the terraces and the only way to make his dream come true would be to get his hands on an executive box.

His son, Rob, enlisted the help of United fans who spread the word on Twitter and caught the eye of Young.

And the England winger has remained true to his word, with John taking pride of place in Young's private box for the clash with Swansea City on Saturday.
