Maxi López snubs handshake with Mauro Icardi - ex-friend who stole his girlfriend

Monday, April 14, 2014

Former best friends Maxi López and Mauro Icardi publicised their fall-out at the start of Sunday's Serie A game between Sampdoria and Inter Milan.

In a match that saw coaches Walter Mazzarri and Siniša Mihajlović face their former clubs, López also came face-to-face with Icardi, who made behind-the-scenes moves for his friend's ex-wife Wanda Nara after they all went on vacation together.

On Sunday afternoon, the one-time friends, who played together at Sampdoria, met on the field and López refused to shake Icardi's hand before kick-off and wouldn't look him in the eye.

Icardi was jeered throughout the game by the crowd but he exacted revenge on the snub by bagging a brace in the 4-0 win.

López's day got even worse when he had a penalty saved by Samir Handanović.

"Éder was designated to take the penalty, but Maxi asked to take it and Éder agreed," Sampdoria assistant coach Nenad Sakić told a press conference.

"It was the wrong course of action, even if Maxi had converted it."

Mazzarri told Sky Sport Italia: "Both Icardi and Maxi López are professionals and they need to set everything else aside when they step on to the field.

"They are under the eyes of everyone and have a responsibility to the fans."
