Cannavaro out of Euro 2008!

Tuesday, June 3, 2008

Shocking news coming from the Azzurri's training camp in Austria.

Italy skipper and 2006 FIFA World Player of the Year winner, Fabio Cannavaro, will miss Euro 2008 after suffering a serious ankle injury during a training session.

It was suggested that Canna has severely damaged his left ankle and will possibly have to undergo surgery.

And now Italy will have to face Euro 2008 without their captain.

Cannavaro suffered the injury after colliding with Giorgio Chiellini during the practice match.

The Real Madrid defender, who led the Azzurri to win the World Cup title in 2006, remains grounded for around 20 minutes and carried off on board.

The accident happened only hours after Italy arrived in Austria.

The replacement for Canna has been announced by FIGC, and Fiorentina's defender Alessandro Gamberini will take the opportunity to replace Canna.

The 26-year-old was outstanding for the Viola during this season as they reached the fourth and last place for next season's Champions League by excluding Serie A giants AC Milan.

However, Cannavaro's absence is a major blow to his country, who are in the 'Group of Death' with France, Netherlands and Romania.

With 116 caps on his name, Italy will surely missed their experienced and charismatic captain.
