Gonzalo Higuaín snatched the only goal of th match as Real Madrid continued their impressive winning streak and earn a seventh straight La Liga victory thank to a 1-0 over Racing Santander at the Bernabéu.

The hosts' best spell in the opening period came around the half-hour mark when Racing goalkeeper Toño was called into action three times in as many minutes.

He first tipped over Arjen Robben's right-footed piledriver from the edge of the area before leaping up to block Rafael van der Vaart's attempted lob after the Dutchman had broken through. Van der Vaart then had another effort soon after but Tono was able to comfortably gather at his near post.

The home side finally broke the deadlock three minutes into the second-half when Higuaín raced onto Raúl's glancing headed pass, feigned to shoot before skipping inside the sliding César Navas and coolly slotting his shot past Toño.

Six minutes later, Higuaín almost scored his second of the night when he fired in a low shot that Toño somehow managed to divert over the bar with his foot.

Racing then had an excellent chance to equalise late on, but giant striker Nikola Žigić could only head Toni Moral's cross just over the bar.

In Saturday's late match, Real Betis new signing Ricardo Oliveira scored on his debut as they recorded a 2-1 win over arch-rivals Sevilla in the Andalusian derby.
