Raúl González became Real Madrid's all-time leading scorer as his brace helped the reigning champions thrashed Sporting Gijón 4-0 at El Molinón.

The 31-year-old striker started the match level on goals with the great Alfredo di Stéfano, but needed just 15 minutes to enter the record books with his 308th goal for the club.

Sergio Ramos' thunderous cross from the right looked difficult to control, but Raúl managed to get his left foot on the ball and steer his shot just inside the right-hand post.

Klaas-Jan Huntelaar doubled the lead with his first goal for Real since his move from Ajax in January. The Dutchman ran onto Gonzalo Higuaín's flick-on in the 37th minute to slot a low shot past Inaki Lafuente.

Marcelo, who was playing on the left wing in the absence of the injured Arjen Robben, made it 3-0 four minutes after the break as the Brazilian full-back clipped home a clever finish after Higuaín had played him clear down the left side with a backheel pass.

Huntelaar appeared to be onside when he headed in Ramos' cross in the 72nd minute but the goal was disallowed for offside.

But Real did manage one more goal as Raul scored his 309th goal for the club four minutes later, pouncing on a loose rebound inside the box.
