Sunderland loan striker Djibril Cissé has made it clear that his future lies in the Premier League and not back in his homeland with parent club Marseille.

The 27-year-old striker is currently on a season-long loan at North East, with the agreement is set to expire in the summer.

The Frenchman admits he would be open to penning a full-time deal at the Stadium of Light having enjoyed his time at the club this year, but accepts that he must be patient.

He told Sky Sports News: "To be honest I would prefer to stay in the Premier League. If it is going to be Sunderland, I don't know at the moment.

"We don't know if we are going to stay up, but I think we will.

"But then it is down to the board to make a decision. I am waiting for a transfer or talks.

"No disrespect to Marseille or the public, because I have a good relationship with them and I still have a lot of friends there, but I think my heart is in England and in the Premier League."
