Pepe banned 10 games for reckless actions against Getafe

Saturday, April 25, 2009

Real Madrid defender Pepe has been banned from playing for 10 league matches by Spain's Disciplinary Committee following his violent outburst against two Getafe players during a league match earlier this week.

The Portugal international was sent off during Real's 3-2 home win after he shoved Javier Casquero to the ground to concede a late penalty and then brutally stamped on him several times as he laid on the ground.

The 26-year-old then palmed the angry Juan Albín in the jaw and insulted the fourth referee after leaving the field.

He will now miss Real's remaining six games of the season, including next week's El Clásico against Barcelona, after the ruling by the disciplinary committee of the Spanish Football Federation (RFEF).

"One game for the foul, four for the aggressive acts (on Casquero), four for the second (attack on Albín) and another one for the insults directed at the referee," disciplinary committee president Alfredo Florez said.

Additionally, both Real and Pepe will be fined after the latter ran on to the pitch to celebrate Gonzalo Higuaín's late winner in the match.

Los Merengues said they won't make a decision on whether to appeal before Monday.
