Christian Vieri set for Blackburn trial

Sunday, July 5, 2009

Christian Vieri has no intention of retiring as the veteran is set for a trial with Premier League side Blackburn Rovers.

Il Corriere Della Sera reports the striker, who speaks fluent English, is due at Blackburn' training camp in Austria and is ready to impress Sam Allardyce, a manager never afraid to take on a golden oldie.

The deal was assisted by former France and AC Milan winger Ibrahim Ba, who played under Allardyce at Bolton Wanderers.

Vieri has been out of the game since breaking his contract with Atalanta several weeks before the end of last season due to disagreements with the club and fans.

He has since been trying to find a new club, but was rejected by Brazilian sides Flamengo and Corinthians.

During the late 90's and early part of this decade, Vieri was widely regarded as one of the most prolific forwards in football.

However his career has been in decline since departing Inter Milan in 2005.

He has had spells at Milan, AS Monaco, Sampdoria – where he tore up his contract in 2006 before a single training session – Atalanta, Fiorentina and back to the Orobici.
