Lyon agree fee for Dani Güiza

Wednesday, July 29, 2009

Olympique Lyon could finally have been successful in their search for a striker after agreeing a deal with Fenerbahçe for Dani Güiza.

Les Gones are keen to beef up their attacking options after seeing strike duo Fred and Karim Benzema depart over the past few months.

And while they have been linked with several frontmen, only Lisandro López has been brought in as a replacement.

But it now appears that Lyon have finally made a breakthrough after Fenerbahçe coach Christoph Daum confirmed that his club have accepted a bid believed to be in the region of €12 million for Güiza.

Daum told Milliyet: "The offer isn't very high in relation to the price we paid to have him.

"But he absolutely wants to leave the club. So we will accept it and look for another attacker."

Güiza joined the Turkish outfit from Real Mallorca, with whom he had netted 27 goals in a single season, 12 months ago after helping to fire Spain to victory in the Euro 2008.

However, the 28-year-old has struggled to adjust to life in Turkey and has made little secret of his desire to leave the country.
