Lazio shot themselves in the foot with two howlers in the final eight minutes giving Salzburg a 2-1 victory at the Stadio Olimpico.
Substitute Pasquale Foggia appeared to have won the game for the hosts when he scored in the 59th minute.
But in the 82nd minute Franz Schiemer tapped home the equaliser after a collision between Lazio keeper Albano Bizzarri and teammate Modibo Diakité.
And a disastrous defensive error in stoppage time, this time Emílson Cribari's wayward header, gifted Marc Janko with the winner for Salzburg.
