Beckenbauer hints at Toni departure

Bayern Munich president Franz Beckenbauer is a fan of Luca Toni but concedes he will be leaving the club in January.

The Italian hitman has spent the last two years in Germany, having moved to Allianz Arena in 2007.

He enjoyed initial success at Bayern, becoming the focal point of their attack as they took the 2007/08 Bundesliga title.

However, recently Toni has grown increasingly distant from coach Louis van Gaal and his frustration surfaced during the recent game against Schalke when he left the stadium after being substituted at half-time.

"I like Toni as a player and as a person," Beckenbauer told La Gazzetta dello Sport.

"He has done a lot in Munich and Bayern have given a lot to him.

"I would like to keep him but if he wants to go then he should go."
