Sevilla announced on Friday that defender Sergio Sánchez has a heart condition and will not play again until "rigorous tests" have been carried out.

The 23-year-old has now travelled to Barcelona to be with his family and will have further tests there.

An official club statement read: "Sánchez is suffering from a cardiac pathology which demands the suspension of all physical activity for the time being."

Sevilla have been very concerned about the possible heart problems of their players since Antonio Puerta, 22, collapsed during a match in 2007 and died four days later after a prolonged cardiac arrest.

Last August, Espanyol captain Daniel Jarque, 26, died of a heart attack during pre-season training in Italy.
