Arsenal tracking Ajax starlet on Dennis Bergkamp's advice

Friday, February 26, 2010

Arsenal are closely monitoring the progress of Ajax Amsterdam youngster Christian Eriksen, after receiving a tip-off from legendary ex-striker Dennis Bergkamp.

Bergkamp, currently coaching at Ajax, has reportedly informed his old boss Arsène Wenger about Eriksen’s exceptional talent, and urged the Frenchman to make a move for the player before he signs a new long term deal at the Dutch giants.

The Danish midfielder, who turned 18 earlier this month, has only one year left on his contract in Amsterdam.

Ajax are on the verge of offering Eriksen a long-term contract in the coming weeks, but coach Martin Jol has previously conceded that it will all come down to what the player wants to do with his future.

Arsenal, though, are not the only side interested in the teenager and Wenger will face competition from the likes of Chelsea and Barcelona, where he has already had trials, if he wishes to bring the teenager to the Emirates Stadium.

Eriksen made his official Ajax debut earlier this season in the 1-1 away draw against NAC Breda and is widely considered as one of the most exciting youngsters in the Eredivisie.

The midfielder is renowned for his excellent technique, movement, control and intelligence and has drawn comparisons with players like Michael Laudrup, Andrés Iniesta and Wesley Sneijder.
