'Chelsea will make offer for Marek Hamšík'

Sunday, February 21, 2010

Carlo Iacomuzzi, an Italian scout who has worked for Chelsea in the past, claims that the Blues will make a summer offer for Napoli midfielder Marek Hamšík.

Chelsea - cleared to spend this summer after seeing their transfer ban quashed - are desperate to inject some younger players into the squad and they have been monitoring 22-year-old for some time.

"This year I am convinced that Chelsea will make Napoli an official offer for Hamšík," Iacomuzzi told Radio Kiss Kiss.

"I have watched him many times on Chelsea's behalf. I know that also this year other scouts have come to Napoli to check on his progress.

"But watching a player like Hamšík again seems superfluous to me. They are no longer just looking at the player, but also at how he plays in a certain tactical scheme."

He added: "How much is he worth? This depends on the requests. But I would say that €30 million is not enough for him because he can improve and has potential.

"He can improve by playing in a team of champions, for example having (Didier) Drogba up front, and (Frank) Lampard and (Michael) Ballack beside him."

Chelsea, though, will face heavy competition from Manchester United and Inter Milan.

It's no secret that Inter coach José Mourinho wants Hamšík in his side, whilst Italian media reports have linked the Slovakian to Old Trafford.
