David Moyes buried the hatchet with Wayne Rooney

Sunday, February 21, 2010

Everton manager David Moyes has revealed for the first time that Wayne Rooney has phoned him to apologise and put an end to their feud.

Moyes fell out with the Manchester United and England star prior to his acrimonious £27 million move to Old Trafford in 2004.

The former Preston North End manager became involved in a libel dispute with Rooney following claims in the striker's autobiography, My Story So Far.

One of Rooney's written criticisms was that Moyes was overbearing but the player has since apologised.

"Wayne phoned me up a year ago to apologise for his book and to say that the things he'd put in his book were wrong, and he'd made a mistake," said Moyes.

"I got the impression it was something Wayne wanted to do, rather than someone suggesting it to him.

"It came across that he wanted to make the call and set things straight between us, and I appreciated that.

"I had to give him a lot of credit for that. For me it showed his maturity and he thanked us for the help that had been given to him at Everton.

"I said to him: 'No problem, that's fine. It just shows the maturity and where you're coming to.'"
