Real Madrid announced on Friday that Brazilian defender Marcelo has penned a new deal that will keep him at the Bernabéu until 2015.

The 21-year-old joined Los Merengues from Brazilian club Fluminense in January 2007 and has proved a natural replacement for Roberto Carlos.

He has so far made 98 appearances for the Spanish giants and has scored a total of six goals.

A statement on the club's website read: "Real Madrid and Marcelo Vieira have signed the contract renewal with which the player will remain tied to the club until June 2015."

Marcelo has won two Spanish titles and a Spanish cup during his time with Real and helped his country to a bronze medal at the 2008 Olympics.
