Adriano, who has signed a three-year contract, previously won four Scudetti during his time with Inter Milan, but personal problems saw him depart the San Siro to return to his homeland.

However, he will now will join the capital club as a free agent after seeing his deal with Brazilian side Flamengo expire.

"I am glad to be back in Italy and to hold the Roma jersey, which carries so much responsibility," Adriano said in his presentation press conference.

"So many things have changed since I went back to Brazil. I rediscovered the happiness that I had lost, today I’m more mature and have returned to prove it.

"Many clubs sought me, not just in Italy and in England, but I chose Roma because it’s similar to Rio. The fans have that same fiery nature and it has helped me so much that from the moment I arrived there has been such affection."

Roma president Rosella Sensi added: "I am happy to present a great champion like Adriano. It is not a gamble, but a certainty."
