Zenit St Petersburg sign Chelsea target Bruno Alves

Wednesday, August 4, 2010

Zenit St Petersburg have signed Portugal defender Bruno Alves from FC Porto for €22 million, beating off interest from English champions Chelsea.

The deal is subject to the 28-year-old passing a medical and, should it go through, would be considered a major coup for the Russian giants.

The Portugal international has been on Zenit's radar for some time now and despite being linked with interest from Chelsea, Zenit have managed to persuade the player to ply his trade in Russia.

Alves will link up with international team-mates Danny and Fernando Meira at the Petrovsky Stadium.

The 28-year-old becomes Zenit's third signing in recent weeks following the arrival of striker Aleksandr Bukharov from Rubin Kazan and defender Aleksandar Luković from Udinese.
