Nicklas Bendtner shocked by 'crazy' retirement rumours

Saturday, September 18, 2010

Crocked Arsenal striker Nicklas Bendtner insists rumours claiming he may have to quit football due to persistent injury problems are wide of the mark.

Bendtner has yet to feature this season because of a long-standing groin problem and some speculation had suggested the 22-year-old could be forced to hang up his boots.

The Denmark international is shocked by the false reports and is hopeful of making a return to action in the near future, even though he has not specified a comeback date.

Bendtner told Sporten.dk: "It's crazy to hear such stories, I can completely dismiss it.

"I have been worried during the injury spell, but there has never been mentioned that it could stop my career.

"I can't understand where this rumour comes from. It's nasty and quite shocking."

He added: "I am looking forward now and there is a lot to look forward to.

"I am expecting to be fit for a comeback within a not too distant future, but I have not set a date.

"Arsenal and I have worked out a timetable which I am following, but we are keeping the details to ourselves."
