Nine men Athletic Bilbao moved provisionally into seventh place in the La Liga table after a 1-0 home success over struggling Almería.
Fernando Llorente netted what turned out to be the only goal of the game on 11 minutes after Bilbao had already spurned a great chance to take the lead when Mikel San José saw his fourth-minute penalty saved.
The hosts went a man down after Koikili was given his marching orders on the stroke of half-time and was reduced to nine over the last 20 minutes when substitute Xabier Castillo drew a red card.
