Villarreal extended their unbeaten run to 10 games in all competitions with a 1-1 draw againstt Sporting Gijón at El Molinón.
The Yellow Submarine looked set to suffer only their second league defeat of the season after falling behind to Diego Castro's 69th-minute penalty and then losing captain Gonzalo Rodríguez to a red card eight minutes later.
But Villarreal won a spot-kick of their own deep into injury time, which Giuseppe Rossi coolly slotted home for his sixth goal of the season.
