Sunday evening has seen the move become a reality, with both clubs confirming on their official websites that a sale has been agreed.
Thiago, who had also been heavily linked with a move to Manchester United, will fly to Munich for his medical in the coming days before signing a four-year contract with the current champions of Europe.
Bayern will directly pay €20 million to Barcelona with the extra five million coming from a future friendly match between the two clubs, and an agreement by Thiago to forego personal payments making up the difference.
"Thiago Alcántara was the biggest wish of our new coach Pep Guardiola," Bayern chief executive Karl-Heinz Rummenigge told the club's website. "We're delighted we've successfully negotiated this major transfer.
"Only recently, Thiago was named best player at the U-21 European championship. He's a fantastic player with huge potential, and he will make Bayern stronger."
