The Gunners took the lead in the 22nd minute thanks to a moment of madness by Boruc.

Upon receiving a routine backpass from Nathaniel Clyne, Boruc made a complete hash of his attempted dragbacks when dwelling on the ball under pressure from Olivier Giroud.

The France striker promptly nicked the ball off the hapless goalkeeper and slotted home his sixth Premier League goal into an empty net.

Giroud then converted a late penalty to condemn Southampton to a second Premier League defeat of the season.

Following that embarrassment, Boruc poked fun at himself by uploading a picture of Johan Cruyff alongside his attempt, with the caption: "Close enough...f...hell..."
