Dimitri Payet opened the scoring for Marseille after 27 minutes before Ajaccio defender Grenddy Perozo levelled matters just four minutes later

But Gignac, who had been left out of the starting XI for their last four games in all competitions, reclaimed Marseille's lead on 39 minutes in magnificent fashion.

Kassim Abdallah put a cross in from the right which landed to the former Toulouse striker on the edge of area.

Facing away from goal, Gignac controlled on his chest before smashing a dipping volley over Guillermo Ochoa and into the far corner.

Florian Thauvin added a third in the 58th minute to give Marseille back-to-back wins in a three-game unbeaten run.

"Gignac is a player who works hard and is extremely professional every time he takes the pitch. He showed a lot of promise tonight," said Marseille coach Elie Baup afterwards.
