Italian club Bologna have confirmed that striker Rolando Bianchi is recovering after a benign tumour was removed from his foot.
The 31-year-old underwent surgery after it was found he was suffering from Morton's neuroma, a benign tumour of the intermetatarsal plantar nerve which can cause the foot to feel numb and is essentially fibrous tissue formed around the nerve.
Bologna, who were relegated from Serie A this season, released a statement confirming details of Bianchi's operation on Thursday.
It read: "Rolando Bianchi has undergone surgery for removal of Morton's neuroma.
"The player will now observe a few days of convalescence, and then gradually start the rehabilitation phase."
Bianchi had been something of a journeyman, having played for Atalanta, Cagliari, Reggina, Manchester City, Lazio, and Torino before joining Bologna last summer.
