Ortega sustained injuries to his groin and left leg and was transported by ambulance to Hospital Penna for medical assessment.
Investigation underway
Authorities confirmed that those responsible for the assaults have not yet been identified. An investigation is ongoing.Police intervention prevented further escalation, but the incident has raised serious questions about safety measures at amateur sporting events.
Club apology
Following the match, La Banda del Moy issued a public apology on social media, acknowledging responsibility and pledging to prevent a similar incident in the future. We are going to take responsibility for our own actions and take measures so that this does not happen again. The club added that it has been active for a decade and said this was the first time such an episode had occurred.

The Independent Referees Association of Bahía Blanca also released a statement condemning the attack and expressing solidarity with Cruz. The organisation said it "strongly condemns the acts of violence" and reaffirmed that "there is no place for violence on or off the field of play."
Wider concerns over abuse in sport
Incidents involving abuse of referees have become an increasing concern across all levels of football globally, with governing bodies repeatedly calling for stronger protections and stricter sanctions. For many within the sport, the assault on a young official simply doing her job highlights the risks faced by referees and the urgent need for cultural change in how match officials are treated.
As investigations continue, the focus remains on Cruz's recovery and on ensuring accountability for those involved.
