The unusual interruption came with Hull City trailing 3-1 at the MKM Stadium, turning an already frustrating afternoon into one of the most bizarre moments of the 2025/26 season.
A halt in play due to a disruptive squirrel
The first stoppage arrived in the 54th minute when the furry intruder sprinted across the pitch.Play resumed shortly after, only for the squirrel to return around five minutes later - this time to even louder reactions.Squirrel stopped play!!! @HullCity @BristolCity @talkSPORT @TheAdrianDurham 😂😂😂 pic.twitter.com/Njx1vH4QoQ

As it darted across the goal line and into the net, supporters roared as if the Tigers had scored, whilst several players struggled to hide their amusement.

Goals before and after the chaos
Before the wildlife cameo, the match had already delivered plenty of drama.Oli McBurnie opened the scoring for Hull after 24 minutes, raising hopes of a home victory.
However, the visitors responded superbly as Rob Atkinson levelled nine minutes later before Ross McCrorie struck six minutes before half-time to give the Robins a 2-1 lead.
Five minutes into the second half, Emil Riis Jakobsen made it 3-1, deepening Hull's misery - moments before the squirrel invasion lightened the mood.
Hull did rally late on, with January signing Kieran Dowell pulling one back in the 78th minute, but Bristol held firm to secure a memorable 3-2 win.
What it means for the table
The defeat sees Hull slip to fourth in the EFL Championship, now four points behind second-placed Middlesbrough and five adrift of leaders Coventry City, denting their push for automatic promotion.Bristol, meanwhile, move up to eighth - just one point off the play-off places - continuing their strong response to last weekend's heavy 5-0 defeat against Derby County.
It may not change the result, but the pitch-invading squirrel has already secured its place as one of the season's most unforgettable - and unexpectedly entertaining - moments.
