Football match in Tanzania halted after swarm of BEES invades pitch
A football match in Tanzania was dramatically suspended after a swarm of bees invaded the pitch, forcing players, referees and even a cameraman to dive for cover.

The bizarre incident occurred at the Kwaraa Stadium in Babati during the Tanzanite Pre-Season International Tournament, where City FC Abuja were facing JKU FC.

With the score locked at 1-1 in the 77th minute, chaos unfolded when bees suddenly descended on the field.

Players Drop to the Ground for Safety

Under instruction from officials, players from both sides immediately dropped to the turf, lying flat to avoid being stung.

An assistant referee and a TV cameraman were also seen doing the same, whilst substitutes scrambled to take shelter beneath the dugout benches.

In contrast, the crowd inside the Kwaraa Stadium appeared largely unmoved, with many fans staying seated despite the airborne invasion.

It remains unclear whether this was due to not noticing the bees or sheer bravery in the stands.

What Caused the Bee Swarm?

The exact reason for the bee invasion remains uncertain.

Local outlet Afrizum reported that unusual weather conditions in the region may have triggered the incident, whilst others speculated that the vibrations from the match itself could have disturbed the insects.

Fortunately, no players, officials, or spectators were reported to have been stung during the disruption.

Late Drama After the Delay

Once the bees dispersed and play resumed, City FC Abuja went on to grab a dramatic late winner, leaving JKU FC wishing the swarm had lingered a little longer.

This isn't the first time sport has been interrupted by bees.

At Indian Wells last year, tennis star Carlos Alcaraz was stung mid-match during a clash with Alexander Zverev, leading to a similar suspension.
